Black Stallion Literacy Project

The Homestead Rodeo Association is a not-for-profit Florida corporation recognized under IRS tax code 501 (c) as a public charitable organization.

The HRA supports youth activities such as the Black Stallion Literacy Project, now in its fifth year.

Under this project, the HRA provides two books, ‘Little Black, a Pony’ and ‘Little Black Goes to the Circus’ to first graders.

In conjunction with the South Florida Trail Riders, the HRA takes horses to visit five Homestead area elementary schools. On the day before the Rodeo kicks off,

the HRA sponsors a free Horse / Kids Day where 900 or more first graders take a field trip to the Arena. They get to see performances by the Homestead Everglades Posse drill team, exhibitions by the South Florida Trail Riders, trick roping demonstrations, rodeo clowns and more. Students get to visit several horse related learning stations giving them an up close & personal experience they will never forget.
